it rains and rains and rains a bit more and Sis has to go to work? One joins a patchwork and quilting challenge!
So off we set to St Luke’s church in Buckfastleigh to see what it was all about. We found about 11 ladies sorting fabric, sandwiching and patching and quilting for charity.
It is called Project Linus Uk , a charity that provides distressed children with a blanket; either patched and quilted or knitted.
As a lot of quilts need to be made, they are patched and quilted by machine. The lady in charge of this group has a patching and (hand)quilting history, but none of the other ladies had hardly ever sewn or stitched before, bar the odd sewing of buttons on a shirt I imagine 😉
Nonetheless they have made some very nice quilts over the past few years, for different charities. Each lady contributing her own speciality to the process, be it ironing, tacking up or choosing colours.
Not only fabric is donated, but sometimes even half finished quilt blocks, such a this lovely star!
Needless to say, I joined in and pulled my weight and had a lovely time. Even my mum joined in and undid some tacking.
So patchers and quilters in the Buckfastleigh area with time on their hands and fabric to spare, the next meeting is at saturday 21st of January 2012, or check your Buckfastleigh local News.
